About 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, a man stole a wallet and keys from the tennis courts at Genesis Health in the 800 block of North Socora Street. The suspect used the remote door lock on the keys to locate the owner’s car and drove it away.

During the next several hours the white man, pictured below, used the victim’s credit cards at several businesses. At some point he parked the car in a parking lot near a home in the 800 block of south Seneca. That house was burglarized at about 8 p.m.
The burglary was interrupted by friends of the resident. The stolen car keys were found in the house. Another vehicle was used to remove the stolen property from the home.

COLD CASE HOMICIDE

Around 2 a.m. on Sept. 22, 2013, Colby Hopkins was in standing in a parking lot in the 100 block of North Mead after the Old Town clubs had closed. There were approximately 40 to 50 people in the lot and more in the street.

Two people in the crowd appeared to be trying to get others to fight with them. Investigators said that as people were watching, a number of shots were fired from a parking lot on the northwest corner of Douglas and Mead.

Six people were shot. Mr. Hopkins was found lying on Mead Street. He was later pronounced dead at an area hospital. Witnesses and victims were interviewed but did not positively identify a suspect.

At approximately 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, a resident living in the 5700 block of E. Chadowes was doing yard work on the north side of his house when he was approached by a man who was described as white and in his late teens to mid-20s.

The younger man said he was looking for work and asked if he could mow his yard. They discussed prices, and he said he would come back the following day. He walked away, and the man continued working in his yard.

About 10 minutes later, the resident noticed an unoccupied SUV, with its motor running, parked next to the curb. When he went into his garage he saw the young man in his kitchen. He yelled at him and he ran to the SUV and drove off in reverse.

The resident discovered cash and jewelry had been taken, including a gold ring belonging to his son. The ring is from the 2004 Greece Para Olympics. It was given to team USA for its tennis championship. A photo is shown below.

OFFICER JASON EASLEY: VALLEY CENTER POLICE DEPARTMENT

Sometime between 6 a.m. June 24 and 9 a.m. June 25, several storage units at North Meridian Storage, 1220 S. Meridian in Valley Center, were burglarized.
Several of the items have been recovered, but the following are still missing: A dirt bike (pictured below), a black flatbed trailer with miscellaneous tools, and two Yamaha Banshee ATVs. One is purple and yellow, and the other is red and white. Total property loss is valued at about $45,000.

The vehicles used in the crime are described as a Dodge Ram truck and a red Jeep, pictured below. Investigators know who own the vehicles, but they have not been linked to the crime.

At approximately 6:00 a.m. on June 21, 2016, a trailer and mower were stolen from Cylinder Head Repair at 1035 S. West St. Loss is valued at $3,700. The suspect and his vehicle were captured on video surveillance, pictured below. The man initially walked up to the business, and then left. A short time later he drove back in a black Ford extended-cab pick-up, possibly an early ‘90s model. The suspect backed up to the trailer and left with both trailer and mower.
He is a black man, and was wearing a white shirt, dark pants and a hat.
