Wichita Crime Commission, Crime Stoppers Merge

The Wichita Crime Commission and Crime Stoppers of Wichita/Sedgwick County today announced a merger of the two organizations, according to Crime Commission President Paul Masterson and Crime Stoppers Board Chairman Galen Davis. The merger becomes effective immediately.

“The Crime Commission is very pleased with this merger,” said Masterson. “It’s something the two organizations have been discussing for quite a while. Since both organizations have parallel missions, the Crime Commission board of directors felt it was in the best interest of the community and the two organizations to join forces to fight crime.”

Under the merger, Crime Stoppers will become a division of the Crime Commission. As a part of the Crime Commission, both organizations now will have a greater ability to develop joint projects, said Crime Stoppers Chairman Davis.

“The Crime Stoppers board of directors is made up of volunteers,” said Davis. “Now, Crime Stoppers has access to Crime Commission staff and resources who can assist in creating new Crime Stoppers initiatives that will enhance public safety. The merger means future growth for both organizations.”

The Wichita Crime Commission, founded in 1952, is a non-profit, non-partisan organization made up of business and community leaders whose mission is to prevent crime and support law enforcement. Some of the organization’s long-standing programs include LAW Camp, and the Make Good Choices and Gang Free Wichita projects.

Crime Stoppers of Wichita/Sedgwick County, a non-profit organization of citizens against crime, was founded in 1980. Over the past 31 years, Crime Stoppers has received nearly 30,000 tips, paid out more than $284,000 in rewards, and helped recover more than $5,000,000 in property. In its 31-year history, Crime Stoppers has never revealed the name of anyone who submitted tips.
